Covenant College offers financial assistance to qualified students on the basis of Financial Need (FN). Covenant utilizes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine a student’s FN. The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. A PIN can be requested at www.pin.ed.gov. Both Covenant and the student should receive an electronic Student Aid Report (SAR).

The Quest Program is a three-semester program. A student must be in the program for the entire program to meet Federal Aid requirements.

Following is a list of possible assistance options:

1. Federal Pell Grant: A Federal grant ranging from $100-$2,025 based on FN. Eligibility requirements of students include income, assets, number of family members in household and number of family members in college. To apply, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

2. Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan (Guaranteed Student Loan): A Federal loan program based on FN. A Federal Aid application must be completed before a loan application can be processed. Interest rate is determined yearly. Repayment begins six months after student completes class work. Loan amount depends on the FN with a maximum of $2,750 per semester.* The Subsidized Stafford and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans will be disbursed at the beginning of each semester, unless you have been late starting the paperwork, and then it will be disbursed as soon as the process is complete.

* For those entering with 57 semester hours of college credit and above and $1,750 per semester for those entering with less than 57 semester hours.

3. Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: Federal loan not based on need. A Federal Aid application must be completed before loan application can be processed. The maximum for this loan is $2,500 per semester.* This loan differs from the Stafford loan in that you will be responsible for the interest payments while you are in school, or they can be accrued and added to the principal at the time of repayment. All of the other information about Stafford loans applies to the Unsubsidized loan. If you do not have the FN to receive the full $2,750 per semester Federal Subsidized Stafford, you may borrow the difference in Unsubsidized Stafford loan, in addition to the $2,500.

* For those entering with 57 semester hours of college credit and $2,000 per semester for those entering with less than 57 semester hours of credit.

4. Covenant College Tennessee Equalization Grant: All full-time Quest students living in Tennessee and paying rates effective July 1, 2007, are eligible for the CCTEG grant of $500 per semester, or $1500 for the program.

5. Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant: For Georgia residents of at least one year who are attending a Georgia institution. Because of the way we are required to invoice Georgia for the GTEG, those funds will not be disbursed until after the drop/add period. For that reason, your account at Covenant may incur a finance charge before the Georgia funds are disbursed.

6. Georgia HOPE Scholarship: For qualifying Georgia residents. Check with the Financial Aid Office for information. Because of the way we are required to invoice Georgia for the Hope Scholarship, those funds will not be disbursed until after the drop/add period. For that reason, your account at Covenant may incur a finance charge before the Georgia funds are disbursed.

You need to apply for the Georgia grant/scholarship on-line at www.gsfc.org; Or, on that same site you can print off an application and mail it to the financial aid office. This application is for Tuition Equalization Grant and Hope Scholarship

7. Employee Reimbursement: Many employers offer tuition reimbursement for students in programs like Quest. Contact the Personnel Department of your employer to see if they have a reimbursement program. Students who are reimbursed after the semester or year is completed must pay expenses until they receive reimbursement. Interest will accrue on any balance not paid after the interest-free period. Refer to the section on Payment Plans for payment options.

8. Veterans' Benefits: The Quest Program is approved by the VA for partial benefits. If you qualify for VA benefits, send a copy of your letter of eligibility, an application for benefits or transfer of benefits, and Copy C of your DD214 to the Records Office on the main campus of Covenant College.

9. Other Types of Assistance:
Other grants or loans may be available through the college or other organizations. Internet scholarship search: www.finaid.org or www.fastweb.org.

Covenant College Payment Plan:Interest will accrue on any balance remaining the next to the last business day at the end of each month at the monthly interest rate of 1.17%. If a student has a loan application in process, that student is still responsible for interest that accrues until the loan check arrives. Those students receiving employer reimbursement may use this program; however, the student is still responsible for any interest that is accrued and must pay the full balance of principal and interest before registering for a second semester or graduating.

According to federal regulation, a student must complete at least 12 hours in a semester or 25 hours in the academic year. A student will not be given aid for a subsequent semester unless he/she has completed at least 12 hours in the previous semester.

The Accounting office does not send out paper copies of the student accounts for billing. The student is responsible to check their Banner account, using their Banner ID and PIN. The Accounting Office is sending out, as a courtesy, an e-bill to anyone with an unpaid balance at the end of each month, so please keep your e-mail address updated on Banner. This also gives the student access to their transcript and other information concerning the student, such as addresses, phone numbers, etc. Please keep those updated. In addition, it is important to note that the Accounting office does not accept credit or debit cards as a form of payment on student accounts.
